Random Pool Questions

Can a driver be selected for random testing more than once in a year?

Yes. Random selection means any covered employee is eligible every time a selection is made. Being selected once does not exempt a driver from future selections in the same year.

What if a selected driver is on leave when notified?

If a driver is on approved leave, the selection is typically held until they return to safety-sensitive duty. Contact us to discuss your specific situation.

How quickly must a driver report for testing after being selected?

Under FMCSA rules, selected drivers must report for testing immediately (same day) after being notified, before performing any safety-sensitive function.

Do owner-operators need to be in a random pool?

Yes. Owner-operators subject to FMCSA regulations must participate in a consortium random testing program since they cannot test themselves.
